Led by Leviathan Lab's Co-Directors of its Applied Theatre Initiative Lydia Gaston and Claro de los Reyes, the Applied Theatre Initiative seeks to promote and create community based work in Asian American communities, including its After School Playmaking Program which nurtures and encourages dramatic writing for the 5th grade students of Chinatown's P.S. 124–Yung Wing SchoolThe program was awarded a 2013 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council – Manhattan Community Arts Fund grant, and will be conducted again at P.S. 124 in 2015. The plays, written by the 5th grade participants, will be performed by the grown-up professional actors of Leviathan Lab for the P.S. 124 community both in their school and in a downtown performance venue.

Recently Lydia and Claro presented about Leviathan's work at P.S. 124 at the 2014 National Asian American Theater Conference & Festival
